Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both parts of the prompt—reasons for choosing self-employment and the disadvantages—the ideas are repetitive and lack depth. For example, the discussion on why people choose self-employment focuses almost exclusively on avoiding 'lectures' or 'taunts' from managers, which is a narrow perspective. The disadvantages are also underdeveloped, merely stating that one must do everything alone. To improve, you need to expand your arguments with specific examples and explore broader themes such as financial instability, lack of benefits, or the freedom of schedule.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction or conclusion, and the two paragraphs are not clearly linked. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'when we' to start sentences. Paragraphing is present but the content within the paragraphs is not logically organized; ideas are presented in a stream-of-consciousness style rather than as distinct, supported points. To improve, you should use transition words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'on the other hand' to connect your ideas and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. You frequently use the same phrases, such as 'self employed' and 'work for a company'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'proper manner system' and 'dialogue's', which are not natural English expressions. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to discuss the topic in an academic manner. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and enhance the precision of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'company manager giving a lecture'), missing articles (e.g., 'work for company'), and incorrect sentence structure, such as run-on sentences and comma splices. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces missing after commas and periods. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you should focus on basic sentence construction, correct use of articles, and ensuring that your verbs agree with your subjects.
