Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for choosing self-employment and the potential disadvantages. However, the development of these ideas is limited and often repetitive. For example, the mention of 'freedom' and 'earning more money' is stated but not elaborated upon with specific examples or logical depth. The arguments regarding disadvantages, such as 'stress' and 'mentally unstable', are mentioned but lack a clear explanation of why these occur. The position is generally clear, but the lack of depth in supporting arguments prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical use of cohesive devices. While transition words like 'A firstly', 'In addition', and 'Moreover' are used, they are often placed incorrectly or used to connect disjointed thoughts. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'it's helps to people independent', which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks logical cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'work', 'people', and 'money'. There are frequent errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'self-work', 'managed their time itself', and 'mentally unstable for their life'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. The student attempts to use more complex vocabulary, but the lack of precision and frequent misuse of basic terms indicates a restricted range that is only minimally adequate for the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement ('it's helps', 'they can't gave'), incorrect sentence structure, and punctuation issues. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences produced often contain errors that distort meaning, such as 'Be something for their own way'. While the meaning is generally discernible, the persistent errors in basic grammar and the lack of control over sentence construction significantly impact the quality of the writing.
