Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons for choosing self-employment (such as avoiding company stress and managing income) and disadvantages (such as high risk and intense market competition). However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive, relying on generalizations rather than deep elaboration or specific examples. For instance, the discussion on stress and risk touches upon relevant points, but the explanations are brief and lack clear supporting evidence from real-world contexts. While the position is discernible throughout the essay, the arguments remain underdeveloped, placing this performance in the Band 5 category according to the official descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some organizational structure, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding remark, although the transitions between ideas can feel mechanical and repetitive (using phrases like 'To start with', 'To explain this', and 'To elobrate this'). Paragraphing is attempted, but sentence boundaries are frequently blurred due to punctuation errors and missing spaces after commas, which disrupts the logical flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and although cohesive devices are present, they are often used inaccurately or repetitively, resulting in an overall lack of smooth progression. This aligns closely with Band 5 descriptors for cohesion and logical sequencing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'self-employed', 'competition', and 'organisation', but struggles with word choice, word formation, and spelling errors (e.g., 'reather', 'Addiontally', 'incline', 'buisness', 'elobrate', 'emloyed', 'sucess', 'knowlegde'). These lexical errors and awkward collocations (such as 'the stress about the incline and decline in their work how its work good') are noticeable and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader in grasping the precise meaning, reflecting the characteristics of Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and clause structures (e.g., 'people do not wants', 'when a person choose self-employed reather then work under a company. So,they have need to struggle', 'how its work good not for their career'). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and run-on sentences. While the meaning can generally be deciphered, the frequency of grammatical errors and faulty complex structures places this response firmly at Band 5.
