Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring reasons why people choose self-employment, such as escaping work pressure and poor management, and discussing the disadvantages like heavy workloads and stress. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive, with the same points regarding boss behavior and work pressure echoed across multiple paragraphs. The ideas tend to over-generalise and lack fully supported, concrete examples from professional contexts. Phrases like 'many people was quit their job' highlight the underdeveloped nature of the arguments. According to the band descriptors, the response meets the criteria for Band 5.0, as it addresses the task but remains somewhat repetitive and under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organised into paragraphs, featuring basic attempts at a clear structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently hindered by mechanical and inaccurate cohesive devices. For instance, transitional phrases like 'firslty' and 'Secondly' are misspelled and improperly integrated, and referencing is often unclear, such as in the sentence 'so on first day employs think about to quit the job'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow of ideas is disjointed and repetitive. The overall organisation shows some structural arrangement but lacks clear overall progression, aligning best with a Band 5.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitious throughout the response, featuring limited range and frequent word-choice errors. Examples include 'own-bussiness owner', 'roudly behaviour', 'affeird to tring', and 'compliting deadline'. Spelling errors are prominent, such as 'bussiness', 'firslty', 'independency', 'toutcher', and 'employes'. While the writer attempts to use terms related to employment and business, the noticeable errors and restricted control cause significant difficulty for the reader at times. This lexical control strictly reflects the Band 4.0 descriptors, as the basic vocabulary and pervasive spelling and word-formation errors strain the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay, demonstrating a very limited range of sentence structures. The response is heavily marred by persistent, fundamental errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence construction. Examples include 'many people was quit', 'colleagues problems is also their', 'boss was give a lot of work', and 'there were a various people choose'. Complex structures are attempted but are almost uniformly faulty, resulting in frequent errors that obscure meaning and impede communication for the reader. This performance aligns with the Band 4.0 descriptors, characterised by frequent errors and a very limited, inaccurate range of grammar.
