Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been noticed that these days many individuals want to become self-employed, instead of working in an industry. There are several reasons for this trend such as earn more money, ambitions. There are also several negatives of being self-employed. My preference is explianed further.

Discussing the reasons, the foremost one is that employers want to earn more money. Companies usually pay very less to their employers eventhough they work really hard. Therefore, many of them choose to become independent and open thier own firm. They can earn more amount of money by putting same efforts and they can also build their own identity. For instance, Boat music company's owner, Aman Gupta, left his job at JBL because of salry issues and made a multi million company as well as India's largest music equipment producing company. Moreover, individuals have self ambitions to open their own company. They just wait for right time and enough fund to run their business. Along with that they also start business in partnership which help them to run their business very smoothly and effectively.

Considering the latter question, one of the main drawback is that people may loss their valuable assets. Many individuals become self-employed without doing market analysis and risk factors then eventually they loss their whole savings. It may make them stressful, anxious and sometime leads to chronic diseases such high blood pressure and heart rate ralated issues. Furthrtmore, business does not provide fix income unlike jobs. As a result, it becomes very hard to manage responsibilities of familiy as well as business.

In conclusion, reasons like low salaries, personal goals motivate people to become self independent. However, there's always several risk factors that can affect individuals mental well-beingness.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the reasons why people choose self-employment and the potential disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as mentioning Aman Gupta from Boat music company, which adds a practical illustration. However, some arguments remain slightly under-developed and lack deeper analytical depth. For instance, the discussion on financial motives touches upon earning more money and personal ambitions, but these points could have been expanded with greater elaboration. The writer also includes a brief statement regarding personal preference in the introduction, though the body paragraphs focus adequately on the general reasons and disadvantages rather than solely personal opinion. Overall, the task is addressed well, fulfilling the core requirements appropriately, placing it comfortably at Band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is generally coherent with a clear overall arrangement. Paragraphing is utilised effectively to separate the introduction, the reasons for self-employment, the disadvantages, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'Discussing the reasons', 'Considering the latter question', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical or abrupt, and minor logical links are occasionally awkward. For example, sentences within paragraphs can feel disjointed due to grammatical errors in linking words. Paragraph division is functional, but the flow between ideas lacks the seamless progression characteristic of higher bands. Therefore, the organisation warrants a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'self-employed', 'multi million', 'market analysis', and 'chronic diseases'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'explianed', 'salry', 'drawback' used with plural verbs ('is that people may loss'), 'loss' instead of 'lose', 'fix income' instead of 'fixed income', and 'well-beingness'. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the score. The lexical control aligns best with the Band 6.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-like ideas. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are numerous errors involving subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions, such as 'employers usually pay very less to their employers' (likely meaning employees), 'by putting same efforts', 'risk factors then eventually they loss', and 'lead to high blood pressure and heart rate ralated issues'. Punctuation and sentence boundary errors also occur. While the meaning remains generally clear and the errors rarely impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the writing from reaching a higher band level, making Band 5.5 an accurate reflection of grammatical control.
