Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the reasons why people choose to be self-employed, such as freedom and growth opportunities, and the disadvantages, such as obstacles and health problems. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes superficial. For instance, the example provided of the fast-food shop owner is somewhat convoluted and lacks clear articulation regarding how it fully illustrates the disadvantages. Furthermore, there is a tendency to over-generalise without sufficient supporting evidence. The position is clear, but the overall depth of task response aligns best with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is divided into three paragraphs, providing some basic organisation. However, the overall logical progression is weak. Transitions between ideas feel abrupt, and cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate or repetitive, such as the excessive use of 'and they also'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks clear structure; for example, the conclusion introduces disjointed thoughts rather than effectively summarising the main points. Referencing is also unclear in places, making the flow of ideas slightly difficult to follow. This performance corresponds to a Band 5.0 in coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include spelling mistakes like 'becouse', 'bussines', 'freedome', 'compnay', 'abstackles', 'wored', and 'achiving'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'self-employed' and 'opportunities', but the overall lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. Because the frequent spelling and word-choice errors strain the reader at times, the appropriate band score is 4.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and prepositions, such as 'then you have to be work as self-employ', 'Working with your own can leads', and 'He make all the possible actionns'. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with spaces before commas and semicolons used incorrectly in the conclusion ('So in conclusion ; there aredisadvantages'). While some basic sentences are clear, the high frequency of grammatical errors and faulty complex structures places this response firmly at Band 4.5.
