Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the two main questions regarding the reasons for choosing self-employment and its potential disadvantages. However, the development of these ideas is rather limited and lacks depth. For instance, the second paragraph attempts to explain why people choose self-employment, but the reasoning is somewhat muddled, mentioning that 'institues or firms can provide good salary package' yet simultaneously claiming workers' home situations are bad, which leads to confusion about the exact motivation. The discussion of disadvantages in the third paragraph touches upon start-up capital and lack of staff, supported by a brief personal example about an uncle. While all parts of the prompt are touched upon, the arguments are not fully extended, placing this response at Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, providing a basic structure. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing statements, such as 'On the other hands, their are wide range of people who still pick a company'. Cohesive devices are used mechanically ('First of all', 'Although', 'All the things considered'), and referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the precise logical flow between sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal coherence within the body paragraphs is weak, justifying a score of 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'surve' instead of 'serve', 'insentives' instead of 'incentives', 'expences' instead of 'expenses', and 'peolpe' instead of 'people'. The student attempts some less common phrasing, such as 'deficiency of start up capital', but overall, the lexical range is narrow and inadequate for a higher band. These persistent errors in spelling and collocation place the response firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to ungrammatical constructions such as 'In recent years, work for a company or choose to be self-employed has become widely discussed issue' and 'he cannot done this successfully because he cannot managed the problems'. Frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in places. Consequently, the grammatical accuracy reflects a Band 5 level.
