Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the modern era , individuals prefers to work for themselves and earn money independently , instead of being employee in any private organisation. In my opinion, financial freedom is the core driving factor which is leading general public to take this decision.
People strive for freedom and free time , specially after spending nearly half of their life in routine daily life. From school to university to early employment , individuals finds them in a monotonous routine and overload of work. After being tired from the relentless work of weekdays, general public does not usually get the opportunity to enjoy life. Additionally, limited income does not let people spend money on luxury items most of the time. For example, an average corporate worker in Bangladesh gets arount 60-70 thousand taka per month, and around 90% of this money goes to monthly expense due to high inflation rate , whereas, people tends to save the the rest 10% of the monthly income. Consequently, people finds themselves trapped in 9 to 5 jobs and tries to find an escape from this by being self - employed.
However, nobody should deny the negative consequences of self - employment. Financial risk, loss of investment money, bankruptcy, burden of loan, zeo time management etc are the common notable drawbacks of self owned businesses. Generally, people take the decision of starting a start up company rather impulsively, without proper research about the market size and situation and other major attributing factors, which results in failiure. For instance, about 50% of youngsters in Bangladesh take the decision of starting their own company , among them only around 20% can sustain in long run. This results in a financial burden in a middle class family , along with suicides due to overwhelming pressure of loans. It usually impacts on one's family life as well. As, people can not find time for family like before, the bonds often starts to crack.
Therefore, in my perspective, finance is the leading factor of self employment , which is beneficial for the country as it is irridicating unemployment slowly, but disadvantageous due to the unforseen risks associated with it. I think, proper planning and research can adress the underlying issue , while striking balance between the proper planning and calculative risks can result in success.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the reasons why people choose self-employment, such as the pursuit of financial freedom and flexibility, as well as the potential disadvantages like financial risks and high failure rates. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, placing the response solidly in this band. For instance, the reasons behind choosing self-employment are explained with a clear example regarding corporate salaries and inflation in Bangladesh. On the other hand, the disadvantages, while mentioning important points like loan burdens and stress, tend to generalize slightly rather than exploring the psychological or operational complexities in greater depth. To move further, every main idea requires equal extension and robust support throughout all body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the reasons for self-employment from the disadvantages. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty. For example, transitional markers and referencing devices are occasionally overused or abrupt, such as the transition 'However, nobody should deny...' which feels a bit colloquial and heavy-handed. Additionally, pronoun referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases where it is ambiguous what specific noun a pronoun refers to. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to employ a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and smoothly without relying on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common lexical items such as 'monotonous routine', 'relentless work', and 'impulsively'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation. For instance, phrases like 'zeo time management' contain typographical errors, and expressions like 'irridicating unemployment' show spelling mistakes ('eradicating'). Other minor lexical slips occur, such as 'results in failiure' instead of failure, and 'middle class family' lacking proper hyphenation or pluralization. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the writer from achieving a higher score. To improve, the student should focus on precise word formation, correct spelling, and more natural collocations when attempting sophisticated vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures such as conditional and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of grammatical lapses include subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'individuals prefers' instead of prefer, and 'individuals finds them' instead of find themselves. Article usage and prepositions also show occasional errors, such as 'impacts on one's family life' where 'impact' is incorrectly used as a verb with a preposition, or 'in long run' missing the article 'the'. Punctuation errors are also present, notably unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. To reach the next band, the writer must increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over basic grammatical agreements.
