Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions and maintains a clear overall position: job insecurity and the appeal of flexibility and growth help explain self-employment, while unstable income and the difficulty of competing are identified as disadvantages. These are relevant points, and the reference to post-pandemic layoffs gives one reason some people may prefer working for themselves. However, several ideas are asserted rather than explained. For example, the role of AI is mentioned as making it easier to pursue ambitions, but the response does not show how this leads people to become self-employed. The disadvantages paragraph also lists challenges without illustrating their effects. More specific explanation or a brief example for each main point would make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph explaining reasons, a paragraph on disadvantages, and a concluding summary. Signposts such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “However” help readers follow the broad direction, and the conclusion returns to the central comparison. At times, though, the first body paragraph contains many different points—layoffs, excessive work, AI, flexibility, and business growth—so the progression becomes crowded. Some connections are also unclear, particularly the move from workplace pressure to AI. The conclusion repeats several earlier ideas rather than synthesising them. Grouping related reasons and using clearer links between cause and effect would make the organisation more consistently smooth.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response attempts a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “workforce,” “future prospects,” “cut-throat competition,” “flexibility,” and “instable income.” This shows an effort to express ideas beyond basic language. However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation problems sometimes make the wording difficult to interpret, as in “Undenyingly,” “cruicial,” “accomblish,” and “relentness struggle.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “associate with a firm,” “survive the bread and butter,” and “always being at the toe.” These issues limit clarity and control despite the range attempted. Prioritise accurate, natural combinations and check spelling; simpler precise wording is more effective than ambitious but unclear phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts at complex sentences, including clauses beginning “although” and “whereas,” and the response uses some varied sentence openings. However, control is inconsistent: several sentences contain faulty structures that make relationships between ideas hard to follow. For example, “many organizations are laying off their workforce on a quite regular intervals, results in…” lacks a correctly formed main clause after the comma, while “which assist to provide a easier route” has agreement and article errors. The final sentence also combines several ideas without a clear grammatical structure. Work on complete clauses, subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. Building accurate shorter sentences first will help you use complex forms more reliably.
