Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both questions and gives a clear overall explanation: independence, using personal ideas, and flexibility are reasons for self-employment, while financial loss and health effects are disadvantages. The examples of working from home and taking risky business deals help make these points relevant. However, some ideas are more fully addressed than others. The benefits of flexibility and family time are explained, but the claim that self-employment helps people “get experience” is not developed as clearly. The health point also needs a more precise explanation of how long hours or sedentary work lead to illness. Develop each main idea with a clear cause-and-effect explanation or a specific example to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph on reasons, one on disadvantages, and a conclusion. The progression between the two parts of the task is easy to follow, and signposts such as “For instance,” “Besides this,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some features of stronger progression. However, phrases such as “In responce to first question” and “By answering the other question” sound mechanical, and the repeated use of “sometimes” weakens flow. Some links between claims could also be clearer, particularly between working long hours and the stated health outcomes. Use more natural transitions and connect each example explicitly to its main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, with relevant terms such as “independently,” “financial issues,” “profit,” “loss,” and “decisions.” There are also attempts to use topic-specific language, including “self-employed” and “enterpreneur.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “buisness,” “responce,” “chanllenges,” and “thy” appear in the response. Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “pay heed to be an entrepreneur” and “experience life as a businessman.” Choose more conventional collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms for the risks and benefits of self-employment would help express the ideas with greater clarity and flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including clauses with “because,” “so,” and “which,” and the main meaning is generally clear. Some sentence forms are handled effectively, for example, “This can save much of their time which they can spend with their families.” However, there are some errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation. Examples include “a self-employed individual have to face,” “it also effect their health,” and “sometimes it proved to be beneficial.” The opening sentence also needs an article and clearer sentence separation. Review subject–verb agreement and verb tense, and use punctuation to prevent run-on sentences. Greater control of these patterns would make the varied sentence structures more accurate.
