Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response begins to address why people choose self-employment, mentioning a desire for greater career opportunities and the possibility of earning more as a business owner or influencer. However, these points are only briefly stated, and the essay does not explain the disadvantages asked about in the second part of the task. The opening also refers generally to people who dislike working under an organisation, but does not develop this into a clear reason or example. The response is substantially below the required 250 words, leaving the task minimally addressed and the ideas unsupported. To improve, discuss both questions explicitly, explain each reason or disadvantage, and add relevant examples before concluding.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory paragraph is followed by a paragraph beginning “One of the major reasons,” which signals a shift to supporting detail. The ideas are nevertheless too limited to form a clear progression, and the second paragraph ends abruptly after the point about influencers. The contrast introduced by “Although” does not lead to a complete contrast or explanation, so the relationship between the ideas is unclear. Develop separate paragraphs for the reasons and disadvantages, and use linking expressions to show how each point relates to the question. A concluding sentence would also help the response feel complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “self-employed,” “career opportunities,” “workforce,” and “business,” so the main subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is narrow and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy, such as “inidividuals,” “opporunities,” “finacial,” “bussiness,” and “organistation.” Phrases such as “set themselves free from workforce” are not natural collocations, and “greater career opportunities” is mentioned without precision. Build a more accurate topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully. For example, you could refer to “greater autonomy,” “financial security,” or “an unpredictable income” when explaining the relevant ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the opening sentence and the clause beginning “Although.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent. Examples include “This trend can explained,” which needs an auxiliary and past participle, and “an individuals want,” where the article and noun do not agree. “One of the major reasons for been self-employed” also has an incorrect verb form, while “most of young adult start” has problems with the article, plural form, and subject–verb agreement. The final sentence is incomplete in punctuation and development. Practise accurate sentence patterns, especially articles, agreement, and verb forms, before adding more complex clauses.
