Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response makes a limited attempt to address the question, but it does not clearly explain both why people choose self-employment and what disadvantages it brings. It mentions independence from supervision, decision-making, unemployment and government loans, which are relevant to possible reasons. However, these points are difficult to follow and are not developed with clear explanations or specific examples. The example about a student studying abroad and starting a business is incomplete, and the discussion of government support does not identify disadvantages such as financial risk, unstable income or lack of employee benefits. The opening also says “I firmly agree,” although the task asks for an explanation rather than an opinion. The response is 10 words below the required minimum, and the ideas need substantially fuller development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is an attempt to organise the response, with an opening, discussion of reasons and a concluding statement. Some progression can be seen from independence and decision-making to unemployment and government loans. However, the organisation is difficult to follow because ideas are joined in long, unclear sequences, and the paragraphing does not consistently separate the task’s two questions. The opening repeats the idea that people choose to run a business, while the sentence beginning “alongwith real life examples” is disconnected from the surrounding text. Linking expressions such as “for instance,” “the primary reason” and “in conclusion” are used, but they do not always make the relationship between ideas clear. Use one paragraph for reasons and another for disadvantages, with shorter sentences and clear links.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response attempts vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “supervision,” “decision making,” “unemployment,” “resources” and “loan.” These choices show some awareness of the subject, but the range is basic and several word choices or spellings make meaning difficult to understand. For example, “supermacy” appears to mean authority or supervision, while “promot those people” does not clearly express the intended support. Repeated references to “government,” “people” and “business” also limit flexibility. Improve accuracy by learning common topic collocations and checking spelling and word forms. More precise expressions such as “financial security,” “business start-up costs” and “unstable income” would help explain both the reasons for self-employment and its disadvantages.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts some longer sentences and uses basic structures to express reasons and examples, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Many sentences contain errors that make the intended relationships unclear, as in “they are more talented and want to know acheive his goal” and “government have no morejob.” There are problems with subject–verb agreement, pronouns, articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries. For example, “a student study from abroad and he want” does not maintain correct agreement, and several clauses are joined without appropriate punctuation. The range of sentence structures is limited, and attempts to combine multiple ideas often become difficult to follow. Practise writing accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking agreement, tense and punctuation.
