Why might this be the case?

What could be the disadvantages of being self-employed?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Numerous people these days choose self employement instead of working for an organisation or a company. This is due to the fact people believe entrepreneurship provides greater opportunites and freedom than the 9 to 5 loop which they are stuck in the corporate

Getting influenced by successful entrepreneurs and self made business men or women people get motivated to take the risk and make investments and start their venture from the scratch.Youngsters also believe that it is the fastest way to mint money and live a lavish life, than being a corporate slave throughout their lives. They dislike being commanded by their managers or higher officials as it would hit their pride

But there are limitations of being self employed like, one wouldnt have a fixed working hours. They might have to grind even during the weekends and sacrifice their family time or social life until they make it. Losses can incurr if the finances are not budgeted accordingly and taking huge loans could also put them in a risk, for instance the Dunzo business app incurred losses as the founder couldnt see the potential risks as well as threats. Because he was submerged by his well established competitors like swiggy and blinkit

In conclusion, I believe that one should become a job provider rather than a job seeker. Not only self employement gives you freedom but also provide financial stability and independence to make your own decisions

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both questions and give a clear overall view: people are attracted by freedom, potential earnings and independence, while self-employment can bring long hours and financial risk. The examples of working weekends and the Dunzo business help make the disadvantages concrete. However, some reasons are asserted rather than explained: for example, the claim that young people see entrepreneurship as the fastest route to wealth, and that being managed affects their pride, would benefit from further explanation or a relevant example. The conclusion also makes a broad claim that self-employment provides financial stability, which is not reconciled with the risks discussed. The response is 13 words below the required minimum, so it needs a little more development as well as additional length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: it introduces the trend, discusses motivations, considers disadvantages and ends with a conclusion. The progression from reasons to drawbacks is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “But” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, the first paragraph ends abruptly, and the long second and third paragraphs contain several ideas that would be clearer if separated and linked more explicitly. The Dunzo example is introduced with “for instance” but its connection to the general point about financial risk could be explained more smoothly. Use complete paragraph units and clearer references between claims and examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss work and business, including “entrepreneurs,” “investments,” “financial stability,” “independence” and “competitors.” Some less common or vivid expressions, such as “corporate slave” and “mint money,” show an attempt to express ideas flexibly, although they are informal or imprecise for this essay. There are also spelling and word-choice errors, including “self employement,” “opportunites,” “incurr” and “from the scratch,” which reduce accuracy even though the main meaning remains understandable. Aim for more consistent formal phrasing and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise terms for income, business risk and workplace autonomy would strengthen the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the opening explanation with “This is due to the fact…” and the contrast in “Not only… but also…”. The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems remain. For example, “people believe entrepreneurship provides” needs “that” for a clearer clause, “one wouldnt have a fixed working hours” has problems with the modal contraction, article and plural agreement, and “Not only self employement gives you freedom but also provide…” has faulty inversion and subject–verb agreement. Several sentences run together without full stops, particularly in the paragraph about young entrepreneurs and the Dunzo example. Review sentence boundaries, agreement and clause structure to make your varied sentences more controlled.
