Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify freedom as a reason for choosing self-employment, and you attempt to discuss disadvantages, so the response is relevant to both questions. However, the disadvantages are not clearly explained: references to becoming tired or scared and to a boss not recognising effort are difficult to connect to self-employment, and the claim that people can earn more is a possible advantage rather than a disadvantage. The opening and conclusion repeat the prompt instead of presenting a clear, developed answer. The response also contains 217 words, below the required 250; 28 copied words from the prompt were not counted. Add a specific disadvantage, such as irregular income or lack of paid leave, and explain it with a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore” and “On the other hand” show an effort to guide the reader. However, the progression is difficult to follow because ideas within paragraphs are not clearly connected. For example, the paragraph moves from freedom and working hours to alleged conflict with a boss, then to success and future freedom without explaining the links. “On the other hand” also introduces points that do not clearly contrast with the preceding paragraph. The repeated, incomplete wording in the introduction and conclusion weakens the overall structure. Group one reason and its explanation together, then use a separate paragraph for clearly stated disadvantages.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “self-employed,” “freedom,” “company,” “boss” and “business,” which helps communicate the general topic. However, the range is basic and several spelling errors or inaccurate word choices make meaning difficult to recover, as in “arganisation,” “prefare,” “blakmaling” and “strugal.” Some expressions are also unnatural or unclear, such as “freedamly strugal withour future” and “earn cost.” These problems limit precision, especially when explaining the disadvantages. Build a small set of accurate phrases for this topic and check spelling; for example, describe “irregular income,” “financial security” or “greater control over working hours” rather than relying on unclear wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a few longer sentence forms, including a reason introduced by “Because” and a contrast beginning “But,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and the longer attempts are often incomplete or difficult to understand. Examples include “This essay will the discus to be the disadvantages” and “But you are work for a company,” where the sentence structure and verb forms are not controlled. There are also problems with agreement and sentence construction in “people are prefare” and “you are manage to be your own time.” These errors frequently obscure the intended meaning. Practise forming complete subject–verb sentences first, then add clauses with “because,” “while” and “although,” checking verb forms and agreement in each.
