Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the provided charts, but it fails to accurately report the data. There are significant discrepancies between the figures cited in the text and the actual data provided in the prompt (e.g., citing 74,000 visitors before refurbishment and 9,200 after, which are not supported by the image). Furthermore, the analysis of the satisfaction levels is confusing and contains contradictory statements. While the response identifies the main features, the lack of accuracy in reporting the data and the failure to make meaningful comparisons between the two periods significantly hinders the task achievement. To improve, focus on accurately transcribing the data and ensuring that the comparisons are logical and clearly explained.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'At the fleeting glance' and 'moving further', which do not fit the context of a data summary. The referencing is also unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two time periods. The flow between sentences is disjointed, and the lack of clear signposting makes the overall structure feel somewhat fragmented. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would greatly enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'satisfation', 'vistors', 'refurbrished', 'disastisfied', and 'stedi'. These errors, combined with awkward phrasing like 'data has been calibrated into percentage' and 'very dissatisfied visitors were seemed as more', indicate a lack of control over lexical items. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the inaccuracies in word choice and spelling impede communication at times. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic terms and practicing collocations related to describing trends and data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('droped', 'declineded'), missing articles, and faulty sentence construction. Punctuation is also problematic, with many sentences lacking proper capitalization or containing run-on structures. There is very little evidence of complex sentence structures, and the attempts that are made are often inaccurate. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of tense when describing past data. Proofreading for basic punctuation and capitalization errors would also be beneficial.
