Student answer (Band 8.0)

The given table and pie-chart depicts the total number of people who visited Ashdown Museum the year before and the year after its renovation and the precentage of satisfation level of visitors during both the years, respectively.

By taking a general overview, it is evident that the number of visitors increased significantly after the refurbishment of the museum. Moreover, an incline in the satisfaction level of visitors can be observed in the year after renovation , on the contrary of which, dissatisfaction level decreased.

Before renovation, number of people visiting the museum were 74000. This number rose by 22000 in the final year. The people who were very satisfied increased by more than twice the previous proportion, from 15 to 35. Even the satisfied people increased by 10%. A sharp decline of 25% can be seen in the number of dissatisfied visitors. Additionaly, the number of people who were very dissatisfied remained only half as compared to the visitors before refurbishment.

Lastly, the percentage of people with no response remained the same in both the years, at 5%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The response effectively covers all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main features, such as the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. The comparison between the two years is clear and supported by data from the table and charts. You have highlighted key trends, such as the rise in 'very satisfied' visitors and the decline in 'dissatisfied' ones. The overview is concise and provides a good summary of the data. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are clearly labelled (e.g., specifying that the satisfaction figures are percentages) to avoid any ambiguity in your reporting.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You have used cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'on the contrary', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through the information. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the visitor numbers from the satisfaction survey results. The progression of ideas is smooth and easy to follow. To improve further, ensure that referencing is precise; for example, when mentioning 'the final year', it is clearer to refer to it as 'the year after renovation' to maintain consistency with your introduction.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.5

You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information accurately, including terms like 'refurbishment', 'proportion', and 'incline'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'precentage of satisfation level' (should be 'percentage of satisfaction levels') and 'on the contrary of which' (which is slightly awkward phrasing). However, these errors do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and ensure that technical terms are used with greater precision throughout the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5

The response demonstrates a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'number of people visiting the museum were' (should be 'was', as the subject is 'number') and 'Additionaly' (spelling error). Punctuation is generally sound, though there is an unnecessary space before the comma in 'renovation ,'. Despite these small inaccuracies, your control over grammar is strong, and the meaning is always clear. Focusing on subject-verb agreement will help you achieve a higher band.
