Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the table and charts. You successfully highlight the increase in visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000 and correctly contrast the satisfaction levels before and after the refurbishment. However, the response is somewhat mechanical, simply listing data points rather than synthesising the information into a cohesive overview. While the main trends are identified, the analysis lacks a more sophisticated comparison between the two periods. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview statement that captures the most significant trend at the beginning of the report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and often repetitive. Phrases like 'In the table' and 'The pie chart show' are used to introduce sections, but there is a lack of variety in linking words to connect ideas within and between sentences. The progression of information is somewhat basic, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of linking words such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast' to improve the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple terms like 'big number', 'more good', and 'things is change'. While these words communicate the message, they lack the precision and range required for higher bands. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'peoples' (which should be 'people') and 'no give answer' (which should be 'did not provide an answer'). To improve, focus on using more academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'significant increase', 'proportion', and 'survey respondents'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('The table and the pie chart is show', 'the number is increase') and incorrect verb tenses ('refurbishment is happen'). You rely primarily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your verb tenses are consistent throughout the report. Practising the correct use of articles and plural forms will also significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
