Student answer (Band 7.0)

The table illustrates the number of visitors to Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after it was refurbished, while the pie charts show the results of visitor satisfaction surveys over the same periods.

In the year before refurbishment, a total of 74,000 tourists visited the Ashdown Museum. The largest proportion of visitors (40%) were dissatisfied, followed by 30% where satisfied. In addition, 5% of visitors gave no response. Additionally, 10% and 15% were very dissatisfied as well as very satisfied respectively.

After reconstruction, the survey results changed considerably. The number of visitors increased from 74,000 to 92,000. Also, the highest proportion of visitors satisfied by the visit of the Ashdown Museum, about 40%. While, 35% were very satisfied. The fact was noticed that the proportion of outcomes in category of very dissatisfied as well as no response were at same level(5%).

Overall, both the number of visitors and visitor satisfaction increased following the refurbishment. While dissatisfaction declined considerably, the proportions of satisfied and very satisfied visitors rose, indicating that the refurbishment had a positive impact on visitors' experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully identified the main features of the data, including the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with specific data from the table and charts. However, the report could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the two periods rather than describing them in isolation. For instance, you could explicitly contrast the drop in 'dissatisfied' visitors with the rise in 'satisfied' ones. Additionally, ensure all data points are accurate; for example, you mentioned 40% were satisfied after refurbishment, but the chart shows 40% for 'satisfied' and 35% for 'very satisfied', which could be clearer.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each period, and a summary overview. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Additionally', and 'While' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the sentence structure in the second paragraph is a bit repetitive. To reach a higher band, try to vary the way you introduce data and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the information is easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'proportion', 'refurbishment', and 'considerably'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'satisfied by the visit of the Ashdown Museum' (should be 'satisfied with their visit to...') and 'The fact was noticed that...' which is slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding wordy phrases. Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but incorporating more sophisticated synonyms for 'increased' or 'changed' would enhance the quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as '30% where satisfied' (should be 'were'), 'very dissatisfied as well as very satisfied respectively' (awkward phrasing), and 'at same level' (missing article). Additionally, the sentence 'The fact was noticed that the proportion of outcomes in category of very dissatisfied as well as no response were at same level' is grammatically clunky. Increasing your control over articles and subject-verb agreement will help you achieve a higher score.
