Student answer (Band 6.5)

The table illustrates the information about the number of visitors to Ashdown Museum it shows the result of surveys the level of satisfactory before and after the year it was refurbished.

Overall, the very satisfied and satisfied people increased after the refurbishment of museum but there are still some people left who are dissatisfied and it decreased significantly. The satisfied people are higher than dissatisfied.

The number of visitors increased considerably, rising from 74,000 before to 92,000 after refurbished. Similarly the very satisfied people increased significantly in the survey from 15 to 35 percent, and also a higher satisfied people.

In contrast, people are more satisfied to visit museum now than before. The dissatisfied people decreased from 40 to just 15 percent in the survey and only left 5 percent people who are very dissatisfied and if we see the chart there are only 5 percent people who have no response in this survey.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the data, including the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. However, the reporting is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, you mention 'a higher satisfied people' without providing the specific data point, and the description of the 'no response' category is slightly disjointed. While you successfully identify the key trends, the analysis lacks a degree of precision required for a higher band. To improve, ensure that every claim is supported by the specific figures provided in the table and charts, and avoid vague phrasing like 'a higher satisfied people'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition 'In contrast' is used, but the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Some sentences, such as 'only left 5 percent people who are very dissatisfied', are grammatically awkward, which disrupts the logical flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the survey', 'the chart') is precise will help achieve a more professional and cohesive structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the main points. You use terms like 'considerably', 'significantly', and 'refurbished' correctly. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'the level of satisfactory' (should be 'satisfaction') and 'a higher satisfied people' (should be 'a higher percentage of satisfied visitors'). These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the range of vocabulary. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise nouns and adjectives to describe data trends and avoid repeating the same sentence structures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'the very satisfied and satisfied people increased' (should be 'the number of very satisfied and satisfied visitors'), 'after refurbished' (should be 'after the refurbishment'), and 'only left 5 percent people' (should be 'only 5 percent of people remained'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the data. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
