Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main features of the data, including the visitor numbers and the satisfaction survey results. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical. You have correctly identified the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. To reach a higher band, ensure that you do not simply list data points; instead, group them to highlight significant trends or contrasts. For example, you could have more effectively contrasted the 'dissatisfied' categories before and after the refurbishment. Additionally, there is a minor error in the data reporting where you listed 'very satisfied' twice in the first paragraph instead of 'very dissatisfied'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Meanwhile', 'While', and 'In conclusion' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes repetitive, and the use of cohesive devices is a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the transition between the visitor numbers and the survey results is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could benefit from more sophisticated signposting to guide the reader through the comparison of the two time periods.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly, using terms like 'refurbishment', 'renovated', and 'satisfaction level'. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are also some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'the visitor with no response is not changed', which sounds slightly unnatural. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and avoid repeating the same phrases. Using synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would also demonstrate a more flexible control of language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'the total visitors are 74,000' (should be 'were'), 'the visitor with no response is not changed' (should be 'remained unchanged'), and 'percentage's' (incorrect use of apostrophe). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of tense when describing past data. Ensure that you proofread for small punctuation and pluralization errors.
