Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table shows the number of visitors to Ashdown Museum before and after it was refurbished. The pie charts show how satisfied visitors were in the same two years.
Overall, the museum had more visitors after the refurbishment, and visitor satisfaction improved. At the same time, the percentage of dissatisfied visitors became lower.
Before the refurbishment, the museum had 74,000 visitors. After the refurbishment, this number increased to 92,000. This means the museum became more popular after the changes.
Before the refurbishment, 15% of visitors were very satisfied and 30% were satisfied, so 45% had a positive opinion. However, 40% were dissatisfied and 10% were very dissatisfied. Only 5% did not give a response.
After the refurbishment, the percentage of very satisfied visitors increased a lot to 35%, while 40% were satisfied. In contrast, the figures for dissatisfied and very dissatisfied visitors fell to 15% and 5% respectively. The percentage of people who gave no response stayed the same at 5%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task well. You have successfully identified the main features of the table and the pie charts, providing a clear overview and supporting it with relevant data. You made effective comparisons between the two periods, such as noting the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. To reach a higher band, ensure you integrate the data more fluidly rather than listing figures in separate sentences. For instance, instead of stating the numbers in isolation, you could combine them to highlight the contrast more dynamically. Overall, the response is accurate and addresses the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the table and the pie charts. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However', 'In contrast', and 'At the same time', which help to link your points. To improve, try to use a wider range of cohesive devices to connect sentences within paragraphs more smoothly. Currently, some sentences feel slightly disconnected. Using referencing or substitution (e.g., 'this trend', 'the latter') would help create a more cohesive flow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Terms like 'refurbished', 'dissatisfied', and 'respectively' are used correctly. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, particularly the use of 'visitors' and 'percentage'. To achieve a higher band, try to incorporate more varied synonyms or paraphrasing techniques. For example, instead of repeating 'percentage', you could use 'proportion' or 'share'. Additionally, using more precise collocations to describe the data trends—such as 'a significant rise' or 'a marked decline'—would demonstrate a more sophisticated lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a good level of grammatical control. You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and the majority of your sentences are error-free. Punctuation is generally accurate, and your use of 'respectively' shows an attempt at more complex sentence construction. There are no significant errors that impede communication. To improve, try to incorporate a greater variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or participle phrases (e.g., 'Following the refurbishment, which saw visitor numbers rise to 92,000...'). This would add more variety and demonstrate a higher level of grammatical flexibility.
