IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The table below shows the numbers of visitors to Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after it was refurbished. The charts show the result of surveys asking visitors how satisfied they were with their visit, during the same two periods.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The table illustrate tourists to Ashdown Museum before and after the year it was reconstructed. While charts demonstrate the outcome of surveys knowing visitors satisfaction between the same two periods.

Overall, the number of visitors increased after the museum was refurbished. In addition, visitor satisfaction improved considerably, while the percentages of dissatisfied and very dissatisfied visitors decreased.

The total number of visitors increased from 74000 before the refurbishment to 92000 afterwards, representing an increase of 18000visitors. In terms of satisfaction, the proportion of very satisfied visitors rose from 15% to 35%, while the percentage of satisfied visitors increased from 30% before the refurbishment to 40% after the improvement.

By contrast, the percentage of dissatisfied visitors fell sharply from 40% to 15%, indicating a substantial improvement in visitor's opinions. Likewise, the figure for very dissatisfied people dropped by half, from 10% to 5%. Meanwhile, the proportion of visitors who gave no response remained unchanged at 5%, making it only category that showed no change.
