Student answer (Band 6.0)

he bar graph and pie charts depict the number of tourists at Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after it was renovated, while the chart illustrates the satisfaction and disapproval of their visit to the site, during the exact mentioned period.

Overall, it is apparent that the number of visitors to Museum increased exponentially after it was refurbished giving more people satisfaction than prior to changes. Following the changes the number of people increased from 74,000 to 92,000. This shows the huge success of their mission.

Talking about satisfaction of people before the renovation the proportion was 30% but after the changes it shows dramatic surge to 40%, diminishing negative reviews from 40% to only 15%. Whereas the "very satisfied" rating of visitors before the renovation was just 15% but after the change it sharply surged to approximately 35%. The "very dissatisfied" review also plummeted from 10% to 5% after the museum was refurbished. The only results of survey which remained constant the year before and the year after the changes were "no response" only 5%. It is evident that their project to change the building was beneficial.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response effectively identifies the main features of the data, including the overall increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. You have successfully highlighted the key trends, such as the rise in 'very satisfied' ratings and the decline in negative feedback. The overview is clear and provides a good summary of the data. However, the analysis could be further strengthened by ensuring all data points are presented with complete accuracy; for instance, the term 'exponentially' is used to describe a change from 74,000 to 92,000, which is a significant but not exponential increase. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the task well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph detailing the specific survey results. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Whereas' and 'Following the changes', to link ideas effectively. However, the transition between the visitor numbers and the satisfaction survey could be smoother. Additionally, some sentences feel slightly disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the flow between sentences. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the information is presented in a coherent manner.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Phrases like 'dramatic surge', 'diminishing negative reviews', and 'plummeted' are used effectively to describe the trends. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'the exact mentioned period', which sounds slightly unnatural. While you use some less common vocabulary, there is room to incorporate more precise academic collocations to reach a higher band. The vocabulary is generally accurate and allows for a clear description of the charts without impeding communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several error-free sentences, which is positive. However, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'the number of visitors to Museum' (missing an article) and 'The only results of survey which remained constant' (missing an article). Additionally, some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'giving more people satisfaction than prior to changes'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on article usage and prepositional accuracy will help improve your control.
