Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table & pie charts above illustrate the total number of people visiting the Ashdown museum including the reactions of them before and after the refurbishment.
Overall, the increased number of visitors and enhanced positive response make us clear that the refurbishment was successful. Additionally, the number of dissatisfied people were decreased supporting the refurbishment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task, including the visitor numbers and the survey data. You successfully identified the main trends, such as the increase in visitor numbers and the shift toward higher satisfaction levels. However, the analysis is slightly mechanical. For example, calculating percentage changes like '133.33%' is unnecessary and distracts from the main features. To reach a higher band, focus on grouping data more effectively and providing a more analytical overview rather than just listing figures. The comparison between the two periods is clear, but the explanation of the data could be more nuanced to better highlight the 'main features' as requested by the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear overall progression. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Overall,' 'Additionally,' and 'On the other hand,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit clunky, such as 'Only least was the number of people with no response, was constant at 5%.' This sentence structure is awkward and impacts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence connects smoothly to the next would enhance the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'refurbishment,' 'satisfied,' and 'dissatisfied' correctly. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For instance, 'make us clear that' is not a standard expression; 'demonstrates that' or 'indicates that' would be more appropriate. Additionally, 'tremendous number of visitors increased' is slightly unnatural. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise descriptors for trends, such as 'a significant rise' or 'a marked improvement,' would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. For example, 'the number of dissatisfied people were decreased' should be 'the number of dissatisfied people decreased' (subject-verb agreement). Another error is 'Only least was the number of people with no response, was constant at 5%,' which contains redundant verbs and awkward phrasing. While your meaning is generally clear, more attention to verb tenses and sentence construction is needed to achieve a higher band score.
