Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the table and pie charts, identifying the increase in visitor numbers and the shifts in satisfaction levels. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the main trends are identified, the comparison between the two periods is not fully developed, and the data interpretation is occasionally imprecise (e.g., referring to '40 visitors' rather than percentages). To reach a higher band, you should focus on grouping data more effectively and providing a more sophisticated summary that synthesizes the relationship between the refurbishment and the change in visitor satisfaction.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes repetitive (e.g., starting multiple sentences with 'From the...'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your points more naturally, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is frequent repetition of basic terms like 'number', 'visitors', and 'year'. Some word choices are awkward or inaccurate, such as 'how they satisfied' instead of 'how satisfied they were' and 'highest changed shows' instead of 'the most significant change'. To improve, focus on using more precise reporting verbs and adjectives to describe trends, and ensure you are using the correct terminology for data presentation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'year before to the year after', 'number can be decreases', and 'very dissatisfied shoes'. Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are problematic throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, you need to demonstrate better control over basic sentence construction and work on reducing the frequency of errors in verb forms and prepositions. Focusing on proofreading for these common slips will significantly improve your accuracy.
