Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table provides data on the total number of visitors to Ashdown Museum during the adjacent years of its renovation, while the pie-chart illustrates the proportions of survey results during the same two periods.
Overall, the table indicates the increase in the total number of visitors in the succeeding year, similarly, the pie-chart shows a significant increase in the visitor's satisfaction level after the museum is restored from previous version.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully identifies the main trends in both the table and the pie charts. You have clearly highlighted the increase in visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000 and contrasted the satisfaction levels before and after the renovation. However, the analysis could be improved by making more direct comparisons between the two periods rather than describing them in isolation. For instance, noting that the dissatisfaction rate dropped from 50% to 20% would provide a stronger analytical focus. The overview is clear and covers the key features well, meeting the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. The use of transition signals like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In contrast' helps guide the reader through the information. However, some of the cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the phrase 'ratings altered the year after', which could be more smoothly integrated. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different data sources.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have used a sufficient range of vocabulary to describe the data, such as 'succeeding year', 'proportions', and 'refurbishments'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'restored from previous version' or 'survey held on visitors', which sound slightly unnatural. While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the precision is occasionally lacking. To reach a higher band, focus on more natural collocations and ensure that terms like 'preceding' and 'following' are used with greater stylistic awareness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'the table indicates the increase' (should be 'an increase'), 'visitor's satisfaction' (should be plural 'visitors''), and 'after the museum is restored' (should be 'was restored'). These errors are frequent but do not impede communication. To improve, pay closer attention to article usage and verb tense consistency when discussing past events.
