Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the task. You have identified the main features, such as the increase in total visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. You have also made relevant comparisons between the two periods. However, the report could be improved by grouping the data more effectively to highlight the trends rather than listing figures sequentially. For example, the shift from 'dissatisfied' to 'very satisfied' is a key trend that could be highlighted more prominently as a central feature of the data. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'In general', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the phrase 'In regard, to the total number' is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the visitor numbers from the satisfaction survey results, which helps the reader follow the information. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that referencing is precise.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'refurbishment', 'dissatisfaction', and 'stable'. There are some instances of repetitive phrasing, such as 'the amount of visitors' and 'the number of visitors'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word choice, such as 'as supposed to' instead of 'as opposed to'. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the precision of your writing. To improve, try to use more varied synonyms for 'increase' and 'decline' and ensure collocations are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with preposition usage and sentence construction. For example, 'the number of visitors to Ashdown museum was at 92,000' is a redundant structure, and 'In regard, to the total number' contains an unnecessary comma. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency in some clauses. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on sentence structure and proofreading for basic grammatical slips will help improve your accuracy.
