Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Ashdown museum is a very known museum to which many people from around the country and world visits annually so back in time it doesn't looked like it look now it has been refurbished now.

It shows historical figures and traditional culture of people who used to go to war and there are also their weapons and accessories before it was refurbished we can look that 74,000 people used to go their but after it had been refurbished the number of people had actually increased to 92,000 and we can also see how it had also increased the number of people who was satisfied before and after the refurbishment.

The number of dissatisfied people has decreased and very satisfied had increased and we can also see the very dissatisfied numbers had also decreased and in the end we can see that some people had no response about it and the numbers had not been changed but they are low from all the other analytics. And after the refurbishment number of very dissatisfied and no response is equal.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the increase in visitor numbers and the shifts in satisfaction levels. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The description of the museum's contents (historical figures, weapons) is irrelevant to the task, which asks for a summary of the provided data. Furthermore, the comparison between the two periods is inconsistent; while you mention the increase in visitor numbers, the satisfaction data is described in a fragmented way without clear reference to the specific percentages or trends. To improve, focus strictly on the data provided in the charts and tables rather than adding external information, and ensure all key features are clearly highlighted.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks a clear structure. It is written as a single block of text rather than using distinct paragraphs for the introduction, overview, and specific details. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive (e.g., 'and we can also see'). The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two years. To reach a higher band, you should organize your response into clear paragraphs and use a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'very known museum' and 'back in time' are informal and imprecise. There is a lack of academic vocabulary suitable for describing data trends. For instance, instead of saying 'the numbers had not been changed', you should use more precise terminology such as 'remained stable' or 'showed no significant fluctuation'. You rely heavily on simple verbs like 'increased' and 'decreased' without using more descriptive adverbs or synonyms to add variety to your report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('many people... visits', 'number of people who was satisfied') and tense inconsistencies ('it doesn't looked like it look now'). The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when attempting complex constructions. Punctuation is also weak, with run-on sentences and a lack of commas to separate clauses. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your verb tenses remain consistent when discussing past data.
