Student answer (Band 6.0)

The table illustrates the numbers of visitors to Ashdown Museum before and after refurbishment during the year; however, set of pie chart depicts the results of surveys of visitors satisfaction.

Overall, the large proportion of the guests were satisfied with the museum's reconstruction plan, also numbers of visitors surged after redevelopment, whereas one fifth of the tourists were not satisfied with the refurbishment program.

To begin with, before refurbishment the number of visitors accounted for 74,000, whereas it surged to 92,000 after renovation. Moreover, in the survey, majority of the population was very dissatisfied and declined to 15% after refurbishment. In addition, 5% of people were not interested and did not gave any response regarding the museum's transformation.

Furthermore, one third of the responders were satisfied prior to reconstruction which later rose by 10%. Half proportion of visitors denied much dissatisfaction after a year of refurbishment. On the other hand, ratio of too much satisfied tourists significantly increased from 15% to 35%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. However, the report lacks precision in data interpretation. For example, you state that 'majority of the population was very dissatisfied' and 'declined to 15%', but the data shows this refers to the 'very dissatisfied' category specifically. Furthermore, the description of the pie charts is slightly confusing; you mention 'half proportion of visitors denied much dissatisfaction', which is not a clear way to report data. To improve, ensure you accurately label the categories from the charts and avoid vague terminology. You have covered the key features, but the analysis needs to be more precise to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific data points. You use cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'however, set of pie chart depicts'. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear; for instance, the transition between the table data and the pie chart data could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within sentences could be refined to ensure a more natural progression of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'surged', 'redevelopment', and 'transformation'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'half proportion of visitors' is unnatural; 'half of the visitors' or 'a proportion of 50%' would be better. You also use 'responders' where 'respondents' is more appropriate in a survey context. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, there is a lack of precision in using less common lexical items, which limits the score to the 6.0 range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'set of pie chart' is missing an article, and 'did not gave any response' contains a tense error (should be 'did not give'). There are also issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'ratio of too much satisfied tourists'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
