Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely impacts the task achievement. Because the essay is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence, it fails to provide a full overview or report all the main features of the data. While the introduction attempts to identify the main trends, the lack of development and the failure to complete the summary means the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must ensure you complete the analysis of all data points provided in the charts and meet the minimum word count to allow for a full development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response shows some attempt at logical organization by starting with an overview, but the abrupt ending makes it difficult to assess the overall progression. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and sometimes mechanical way, such as 'Whereas' and 'During the year'. The paragraphing is insufficient, as the text is too short to demonstrate a clear structure. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph has a clear purpose, leading to a logical flow of information throughout the entire report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'very satisfied experience' and 'number of visitors' are used, but there is little evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for describing data trends. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'satisfied improved constantly' instead of 'satisfaction levels improved steadily'. To improve, you should learn specific vocabulary for describing trends, such as 'significant increase', 'steady growth', or 'a marked decline', and practice using these in context to describe the museum data more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For example, 'This pie chart illustrate' should be 'illustrates' (subject-verb agreement), and 'Which continuously rise' is a sentence fragment. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing sentences are often poorly constructed. To improve, focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly subject-verb agreement and tense consistency. Once you have mastered these, work on incorporating complex structures like relative clauses or passive voice, which are essential for describing data in an academic context.
