Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the table and charts, but the analysis is often unclear or inaccurate. For instance, the description of the survey results is confusing, as you mention '40 visitors' when the data likely represents percentages or a different scale. The comparison between the two years is attempted, but the lack of clarity in interpreting the data prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure you clearly distinguish between the total visitor numbers and the satisfaction percentages, and focus on reporting the most significant trends rather than listing every minor detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'Moving further', but they are often followed by sentences that are difficult to follow. The connection between the data points is weak, making it hard for the reader to track the comparison between the 'before' and 'after' periods. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence flows logically from the previous one will enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'number of people', 'visited', and 'result'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'maximums visited' and 'before year', which are not standard English. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant increase'. Additionally, focus on using more precise terminology when discussing data, such as 'proportion' or 'percentage' instead of just 'number'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('The given table... illustrates'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack the necessary complexity to demonstrate a good range of grammar. For example, 'In year before refurbishment, highest number of people feel dissatisfied' contains errors in tense and article usage. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring consistent verb tenses, and correctly using articles. Practising the formation of complex sentences will also help you move towards a higher band.
