Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response fails to address the task provided. The prompt asks for a summary of data regarding the Ashdown Museum (visitor numbers and satisfaction surveys). However, the student has written about water usage in different parts of the world, which is a completely different topic. Consequently, the response is off-topic and does not address the requirements of the prompt. While the student attempts to report figures, the content is irrelevant to the provided visual data. To improve, it is essential to carefully read the prompt and ensure the data being described matches the charts provided in the exam paper.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response is difficult to follow due to the lack of logical progression and poor paragraphing. While there are attempts to use cohesive devices like 'In contrast' and 'On the other hand', these are used incorrectly because the underlying information is disconnected and confusing. The structure is fragmented, and the relationship between the sentences is often unclear. To improve, focus on organizing ideas into a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs that logically group the data. Using cohesive devices effectively requires a clear understanding of the information being presented, which is currently missing.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent errors in word choice and spelling. Examples include 'comperatavely', 'tan than', 'oher', and 'asai'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe the data, relying on basic phrasing. There is also a lack of variety in the language used to describe trends or comparisons. To improve, you should practice using a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'significant', 'majority', and 'minority', and ensure that you proofread your work to correct basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('people uses water'), incorrect sentence structure, and punctuation errors, such as missing full stops and incorrect capitalization. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. There is little evidence of complex sentence construction. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure, including correct subject-verb agreement and the proper use of articles and prepositions. Regular practice with grammar exercises and careful proofreading of your writing will help reduce the frequency of these errors.
