Student answer (Band 6.0)

The table gives data on digits of tourists to Ashdown Museum during the year before and after it was renovation. The two pie charts compare the result of surveys inquiring visitors how pleased they were with their visit, during the same two times.

Overall, there was more tourists in the museum after its refurbishment .Moreover, a year before reconstruction most people were dissatisfied according to survey rather than after the museum renovation.

By looking into the table 92,000 tourists visited the museum after museum renovation and 74,000 visitors came before the remodeling of the museum. However, the given pie charts illustrate amount of individuals dissatisfaction level of about 40% before and 15% after the rebuilt of museum. So the satisfaction level had enhanced by 40% after the reconstruction which was 30% before.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers all parts of the task by summarizing the visitor numbers and the survey results. You have successfully identified the main trends, such as the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by some inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, you state that satisfaction increased by 40%, but the data shows a shift from 30% to 40% (a 10% increase) or a shift in the 'very satisfied' category. Ensure that you double-check your calculations against the provided data to avoid misrepresenting the figures. Overall, the main features are highlighted, but more precise reporting would improve the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. The referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus. The current structure is functional but lacks the sophisticated logical progression required for a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'refurbishment', 'reconstruction', and 'dissatisfaction'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'digits of tourists' (instead of 'number of visitors'), 'after it was renovation' (instead of 'after it was renovated'), and 'rebuilt of museum'. These errors occasionally impede the natural flow of the text. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that you use the correct word forms (e.g., nouns vs. verbs) in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and article usage (e.g., 'there was more tourists', 'after the rebuilt of museum'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but some sentences are slightly clunky due to these grammatical slips. While these errors do not completely prevent communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
