Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table and pie charts illustrate the total numbers of visitors and their satisfaction level regarding Ashdown Museum before and after refurbishment.
Overall, the refurbishment led to a significant increase in visitor numbers and a notable improvement in satisfaction.

Before refurbishment, the dissatisfied remain at first with 40% and satisfied with 30%, respectively, but are very dissatisfied with the low margin of 10%. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task by reporting the visitor numbers and satisfaction levels for both periods. You successfully identified the main trend of increased visitor numbers and improved satisfaction. However, the analysis of the pie charts is slightly confusing. For instance, you mention 'dissatisfied remain at first with 40%' when referring to the 'before' period, but the data description is somewhat cluttered. To improve, ensure that comparisons are more clearly linked to the specific data points. While the main features are highlighted, the reporting of the pie chart data could be more precise to ensure the reader can clearly follow the shifts in satisfaction categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, a body paragraph for the table, and a body paragraph for the pie charts. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'In the table', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'satisfied leads from the front' or 'resurgence from 40 to 15%'. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences within the second paragraph could be smoother to avoid a list-like feel. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two distinct data sets.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'refurbishment', 'significant increase', 'surge', and 'static'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that affect precision. For example, 'dissatisfied remain at first' is unclear, and 'satisfied leads from the front' is an informal, non-academic idiom. Additionally, 'resurgence' is used incorrectly here, as it implies a return of something that had previously declined, whereas the data shows a decrease. Focusing on more precise academic collocations would elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'In the table, it showed that...' (unnecessary 'it'), 'as very satisfied and no response with less share of 15% and 5%' (fragmented sentence), and 'the number of very satisfied gives a surge' (awkward phrasing). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the data, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that every sentence has a clear, complete structure.
