Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the task by summarizing the main features of the visitor numbers and satisfaction surveys. However, the report is incomplete. You failed to include the actual visitor numbers provided in the table (74,000 and 92,000), which is a key part of the data. Furthermore, the overview is somewhat confusing and lacks clarity regarding the trends. While you identified the shift in satisfaction, the description of the data is fragmented. To improve, ensure you explicitly state the total visitor numbers and provide a more structured comparison between the two periods, rather than just listing percentages.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The transition between the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs is abrupt. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes misused, such as the awkward phrasing 'overview, overall'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the 'before' and 'after' periods. To improve, use clearer signposting language (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Regarding the satisfaction levels,') and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus that links back to the main prompt.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is repetitive and lacks the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. There are several spelling errors, such as 'refurbuishment', 'vsitors', 'satiesfied', and 'disatiesfied'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying heavily on basic descriptors. You should aim to use more varied terminology to describe trends, such as 'experienced a significant rise' or 'remained stable'. The misuse of words like 'increasingly' to describe a static percentage (40%) further impacts the clarity of your report. Focus on learning specific collocations for describing data trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'dissatisfied visitors are increased'), incorrect tense usage, and awkward sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. The range of sentence structures is limited to simple or poorly constructed complex sentences. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency. Practicing the use of complex sentences with correct subordinating conjunctions will also help raise your score.
