Student answer (Band 5.5)
The table displays the number of visitors to Ashdown Museum the year before and the year after it was renovated. It also has a pair of charts that show the result of surveys about the satisfaction level of visitors visited the museum during the same period.
Overall, the table shows that the number of visitors after the renovation were more when compared to the visitors before the renovatio.Further, the pair of charts clearly exhibits that the number of very satisfied visitors were increased significantly after the refurbishment when compared to the number of very satisfied visitors before the refurbishment.
Looking at the table it is very oblivious that the number of visitors have increased by 18000 and from the charts the number of very satisfied visitors have increased from 15 to 35 after the renewal. It is also very important to mention that the number of dissatisfied visitors count have prominantly decreased from 40 to 15 after the renovation from. Also, the number of very dissatisfied visitors have also decreased from 10 to 5 and the count of visitors with no response remained unchanged.
So,the table and chart emphasize the fact that the refurbishment have played an important role in attracting the visitors to visit the museum and leave with a greater satisfaction level.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided relevant data points to support your summary. You covered both the table and the charts, making appropriate comparisons between the two periods. However, the response could be improved by ensuring that all data is presented with greater precision. For instance, you mention the number of visitors increased by 18,000, but you do not explicitly state the total figures (74,000 to 92,000) to provide full context. Additionally, ensure that you clearly distinguish between the units (percentages vs. raw numbers) when discussing the survey results, as this is crucial for an accurate summary of the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall,' 'Looking at the table,' and 'It is also very important to mention.' However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For example, the phrase 'from the charts the number of very satisfied visitors have increased' is a bit clunky. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within the paragraphs could be smoother to ensure a more natural progression of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, using terms like 'refurbishment,' 'renovated,' and 'dissatisfied.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'oblivious' (which means unaware) instead of 'obvious,' and 'prominantly' (spelling error). Furthermore, the phrasing 'the number of very satisfied visitors were increased' is grammatically incorrect regarding subject-verb agreement. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'the number of visitors... were more' and 'the refurbishment have played.' Additionally, there are punctuation issues, such as missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. To improve, pay closer attention to singular/plural agreement, especially when dealing with collective nouns like 'number of,' and ensure consistent proofreading for basic punctuation and spelling.
