Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, including the increase in visitor numbers and the shifts in satisfaction levels. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the trends, which is essential for Task 1. The analysis is somewhat mechanical, simply listing figures rather than synthesizing the information effectively. For instance, stating 'the percentage of satisfied people was 30% and after refurbishment it increased by 10% only' is a bit disjointed. To improve, you should group the data more logically and provide a clear opening statement that highlights the most significant changes across both the visitor numbers and the satisfaction survey results.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into a single paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow. IELTS Academic Task 1 requires clear paragraphing to separate the introduction, overview, and body details. While there are some cohesive devices used, such as 'On the other side' and 'after refurbishment', the flow is often repetitive and lacks sophisticated linking. The transition between the visitor numbers and the satisfaction survey is abrupt. Using more varied transition words and structuring the response into at least three distinct paragraphs would significantly improve the logical progression of your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate to convey the message, but it is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'good number', 'good thing', and 'great news' are too informal for an Academic Task 1 report. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'The both pie charts in diagram' (should be 'Both pie charts in the diagram') and 'positive signals' (should be 'positive trend'). To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'significant increase', 'dramatic shift', or 'proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The both pie charts in diagram are showing' (incorrect article usage and word order), 'people visit at Ashdown Museum' (should be 'people visiting'), and 'It showing that' (missing auxiliary verb). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct article usage will help improve your accuracy.
