The table below shows the numbers of visitors to Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after it was refurbished. The charts show the result of surveys asking visitors how satisfied they were with their visit, during the same two periods.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The table illustrates the amount of tourists to Ashdown Museum in between the years before and after of its renovation. The chart describe the outcomes of questions asked from the visitors about their satisfaction with the visits in the mentioned periods.
Overall, almost same numbers of visitors were found satisfied and showed no response in both periods.
The very disatisfied response is shown by some visitors. There is a huge gap between disatisfied individuals in both periods.
In this table it is shown that the number of visitors who visit the Ashdown Museum before it's renovation and after its renovation were 74000 and 92000 respectively.
Almost 15 people showed very satisfactory remarks before and 35 people showed them afterwards. There was a slight difference between satisfied remarks before and after and that was 30 and 40. The disatisfaction arc decrease after the museum got changes from 40 to 15 significantly. The individuals who were very disatisfied before didn't change much and the number only got from 10 to 5 respectively.
The amount of people who showed no response remains same in both time periods.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, including the total visitor numbers and the satisfaction survey results. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, the student mentions '15 people' and '35 people' for satisfaction levels, but the charts represent percentages, not raw numbers of people. This misinterpretation of the data significantly impacts the accuracy of the report. While the main trends (the increase in total visitors and the shift in satisfaction) are identified, the lack of precision in reporting the data points and the failure to clearly distinguish between the table and the charts limits the overall effectiveness of the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices. Some sentences are disjointed, such as 'The very disatisfied response is shown by some visitors. There is a huge gap between disatisfied individuals in both periods.' The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the table data and the chart data is abrupt. While the overall arrangement is coherent enough to be understood, the mechanical nature of the linking words prevents a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several spelling errors, such as 'disatisfied' (dissatisfied) and 'remains same' (remains the same). The student relies on basic descriptors like 'huge gap' and 'slight difference' rather than more precise academic terminology. While the meaning is generally clear, the range is limited, and the errors in spelling and word choice are noticeable throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'The chart describe' (subject-verb agreement), 'in between the years before and after of its renovation' (awkward prepositional usage), and 'The disatisfaction arc decrease' (incorrect verb tense/form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods in the first paragraph. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to suggest a lack of control over complex structures.
