Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

We can find the visitors to Ashdown Museum have increased after its refurbishment. Before its refurbishment , there were total 15 percent of the visitors who were very satisfied ,but after the refurbishment of Ashdown Museum we can find 35 percentage of the visitors were very satisfied .Whereas , coming to dissatisfied , we conclude that visitors were more in percent before its refurbishment but once after its refurbishment the percentage have fallen to 15 percent .

Coming to no response , the count remained constant with no change in percentage of 5 . While looking at the category of very dissatisfied ,before refurbishment of Ashdown Museum , visitors occupied a percentage of 10 and then the count had come down to 5 percent after its refurbishment

Finally looking at the satisfied percentage, there was 30 percent of the visitors who were satisfied before the refurbishment of Ashdown Museum but the count in percentage has increased by percent after the refurbishment of Ashdown Museum.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to address the primary data point: the total number of visitors. The prompt explicitly mentions a table showing the 'numbers of visitors' and charts showing satisfaction levels, yet the essay focuses exclusively on the satisfaction percentages. By ignoring the visitor count data, the response fails to provide a complete summary of the information. Furthermore, the overview is missing, and the data reporting is repetitive. While the satisfaction categories are identified, the lack of an overall trend summary and the omission of the visitor numbers significantly limit the task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear logical progression. It is written as a single block of text with very little paragraphing, making it difficult to follow. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'before its refurbishment' and 'after the refurbishment'. There is no clear structure to guide the reader through the data, and the transition between the satisfaction categories feels disjointed. To improve, the student should group related data points into distinct paragraphs and use a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'we can find', 'the count', and 'percentage' are used repeatedly throughout the text. There is little attempt to use a range of vocabulary to describe trends or data variations. For instance, instead of saying 'the count had come down', more precise academic vocabulary such as 'declined', 'decreased', or 'dropped' would be more appropriate. The student relies on basic phrasing, which prevents the essay from demonstrating the flexibility required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The grammatical range is limited, consisting mostly of simple and compound sentences. There are frequent errors in punctuation and phrasing, such as the inconsistent use of spaces before commas (e.g., 'refurbishment ,'). Additionally, there are awkward constructions like 'the count in percentage has increased by percent', which is grammatically incomplete and unclear. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of complex structures and the presence of persistent errors in basic sentence construction prevent a higher score.
