Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear summary of the main features. The student lists data points rather than identifying trends or making meaningful comparisons. Crucially, the prompt mentions a table showing visitor numbers, but the student only discusses the pie charts regarding satisfaction levels, completely ignoring the visitor number data. The overview is weak and lacks a clear summary of the overall shift in satisfaction. To improve, you must ensure all data sets provided in the prompt are analyzed and that you focus on highlighting significant changes rather than simply transcribing individual figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into short, somewhat disjointed paragraphs. While there is a basic attempt at logical progression, the use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive (e.g., 'After refurbishment', 'before refurbishment'). The transition between sentences is mechanical, and the lack of clear linking words makes the text feel like a series of isolated statements rather than a cohesive report. Paragraphing is present but not used effectively to group related ideas. To improve, use a wider range of linking words such as 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'furthermore' to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'historical things' and 'movement of visitors' are imprecise and do not reflect the academic tone required for this task. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'number of visitors in museum' instead of 'visitor satisfaction levels'. The student relies heavily on simple descriptors and lacks the range of vocabulary needed to describe data trends effectively. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for data description, such as 'a significant increase', 'remained stable', or 'a marked decline'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with article usage (e.g., 'in Museum'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or poorly constructed, such as 'In the pie charts it shows that there are number of visitors in museum before refurishment.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement.
