Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have clearly identified the main features, such as the increase in visitor numbers from 74,000 to 92,000 and the significant shift in satisfaction levels. The data is accurately reported, and the comparisons between the two years are well-integrated. You successfully highlight the key trends, such as the rise in 'very satisfied' and 'satisfied' categories alongside the decline in negative feedback. The overview provides a clear summary of the main developments, meeting the requirements for a high-level response. No significant information is omitted, and the data is used appropriately to support the points made.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is well-organized with a logical progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a clear focus: the introduction, the overall summary, the visitor numbers, and the satisfaction survey results. Cohesive devices are used effectively, such as 'In contrast', 'During the year before', and 'while this figure'. The transition between the table data and the pie chart data is smooth. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the data, which helps the reader follow the analysis easily. The use of referencing is clear, and the flow of information is natural throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. Phrases like 'increased significantly', 'proportions of feedback', and 'fell by 25 and 5 percentage points' are used accurately. The vocabulary is precise and fits the context of describing statistical data. While the range is sufficient and allows for flexibility, it could be further enhanced by incorporating more varied synonyms for 'increase' or 'decrease' to avoid repetition. However, the current usage is accurate and contributes to a professional tone throughout the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The response displays a high level of grammatical control. You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively, such as 'The proportion of visitors who were very satisfied was 15%, while this figure more than doubled after the refurbishment to 35%.' Punctuation is accurate, and there are very few, if any, grammatical errors. The majority of sentences are error-free, and the control over tense usage (past tense for the reported data) is consistent. The writing is clear and easy to follow, indicating a strong command of English grammar.
