Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the data, such as the total visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. However, the presentation of the data is problematic. You have listed figures (e.g., '15 visitors', '30 and 40') without clarifying that these represent percentages from the survey charts, which leads to factual inaccuracies. Furthermore, the description of the data is quite mechanical and lacks a clear analytical focus. To improve, ensure you distinguish between absolute numbers (total visitors) and proportions (satisfaction percentages) and group the data more logically to highlight trends rather than just listing individual figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally repetitive or unnatural, such as 'To commence with' and 'After that'. The referencing is also unclear at times, particularly when discussing the survey results. While the overall structure is logical, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the somewhat mechanical flow of sentences limit the coherence of the response. Improving the variety of transition signals and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall readability.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use the same phrases, such as 'year before and after year' and 'visitors'. There is a lack of variety in reporting verbs or descriptive language. For instance, instead of repeating 'visitors', you could use terms like 'attendees', 'individuals', or 'respondents'. Additionally, there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'later refurbished' instead of 'after refurbishment'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including synonyms and more precise terminology related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with sentence structure, such as 'The chart show the total number' (subject-verb agreement) and 'the visitors very satisfied at 15 visitors' (missing verb). Many sentences are simple, and there is a lack of complex structures. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is weak. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and a main verb, and work on using a mix of simple and complex sentence forms accurately.
