Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task but fails to provide a clear or accurate summary of the data. The overview is confusing, as the student states there are 74,000 visitors, which is a misinterpretation of the data provided in the table. Furthermore, the description of the survey results is fragmented and lacks a logical comparison between the two periods. Key features, such as the specific percentages or the shift in satisfaction levels, are not clearly highlighted or supported by accurate data. The response lacks a coherent summary, making it difficult for the reader to grasp the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs are disjointed and difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the awkward transition 'if we contrast than these'. The progression of ideas is not logical, and the referencing is often unclear, making the relationship between the data points and the analysis confusing. The overall arrangement of information does not facilitate a smooth reading experience.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'dissetified', 'refurbishmt', and 'vistors'. The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe the data, relying on basic phrasing. The lack of variety in lexical items prevents the student from conveying the information with the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 response. Communication is occasionally impeded by these errors and the lack of appropriate collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the mostly visitors were dissatisfied' and 'the amount of satisfied visitors were more'. Sentence structures are often simplistic or poorly constructed, leading to run-on sentences and fragments, particularly in the second paragraph. Punctuation is also inconsistent, which further disrupts the flow of the text. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar limits the score.
