IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The table below shows the numbers of visitors to Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after it was refurbished. The charts show the result of surveys asking visitors how satisfied they were with their visit, during the same two periods.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The table compares the number of visitors to Ashdown Museum before and after its refurbishment, while the pie charts illustrate visitors’ levels of satisfaction during the two periods.
Overall, the number of visitors increased after the refurbishment. In addition, visitor satisfaction improved considerably, as the proportions of people who were satisfied or very satisfied rose, while dissatisfaction declined.
It is lucid that the museum received 74,000 visitors. Regarding satisfaction, 40% of visitors were dissatisfied, making this the largest proportion. Meanwhile, 30% were satisfied and 15% were very satisfied. A further 10% were very dissatisfied, while 5% gave no response.
Probing further,the number of visitors increased to 92,000, an increase of 18,000. Visitor satisfaction also improved significantly. The percentage of very satisfied visitors more than doubled, rising from 15% to 35%, while the proportion who were satisfied increased from 30% to 40%. In contrast, dissatisfaction fell from 40% to 15%, and very dissatisfaction decreased from 10% to 5%. The percentage giving no response remained unchanged at 5%.
