Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the table and charts, identifying the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the description of the data lacks precision; referring to 'a big gap' is vague, and the report fails to accurately synthesize the specific figures provided in the table (74,000 to 92,000). While the main trends are identified, the response would benefit from a more detailed comparison of the specific categories (e.g., 'very satisfied' vs 'satisfied') rather than grouping them loosely. The overview is present but could be more clearly integrated to highlight the most significant changes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'Meanwhile', and 'however', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the phrase 'satisfied by it', where the pronoun 'it' does not clearly refer back to the museum experience. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the table data from the survey data, which helps the reader follow the structure of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'refurbished of Ashdown Museum' (should be 'refurbishment') and 'proportion of visitors satisfaction'. The word choice is often repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'big' or 'massive'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated collocations and the presence of word-formation errors (e.g., 'refurbished' used as a noun) limit the score. More precise terminology related to data reporting would improve the quality of the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as 'before and after it is refurbished' (tense inconsistency) and 'how satisfy they are' (incorrect word form). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to focus on consistent verb tenses and ensuring that word forms (adjectives vs. verbs) are used correctly.
