Student answer (Band 6.0)
The table above illustrates the number of visitors to Ashdown Museum during the year before and the year after it was refurbished and the chart demonstrates the result of surveys asking visitors how satisfied they were with their visit, during the same two periods.
The table displays the total number of visitors to Ashdown Museum, before and after the renovation while the 2 pie chart explains the results of surveys of visitor's satisfaction.
The table conveys that the number of visitors before refurbishment was 74,000, while it increased by 18,000 after refurbishment that is 92,000. The results of surveys of visitor satisfaction shows that before refurbishment, most visitors were dissatisfied that is 40 while after refurbishment, the number declined to 15 dissatisfied visitors. Then number of visitors who were very dissatisfied before renovation reduces from 10 to 5. The visitors who were very satisfied before refurbishment went up from 15 to 35 after refurbishment while the number of no response from visitors remains the same, that is 5. At last, the response for satisfied visitors rise up from 30 to 40.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the data, including the overall increase in visitor numbers and the shifts in satisfaction levels. You provided specific figures to support your points, such as the rise from 74,000 to 92,000 visitors. However, the response is somewhat repetitive, as the first two paragraphs essentially restate the prompt and the table's purpose. To improve, ensure that you synthesize the data more effectively rather than listing figures sequentially. While all parts of the task are addressed, the analysis could be more insightful by grouping the satisfaction categories (e.g., positive vs. negative trends) rather than describing each one individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the logical progression is hindered by the repetitive introduction. Cohesive devices are used, but they are somewhat mechanical (e.g., 'The table displays', 'The table conveys', 'Then number of'). The transition between the table data and the chart data is abrupt. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, avoiding the redundancy seen in your opening sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, using terms like 'refurbished', 'renovation', 'satisfaction', and 'declined'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'the response for satisfied visitors rise up' (should be 'rose') and 'the number of no response' (should be 'the number of visitors who gave no response'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Focusing on more sophisticated collocations and ensuring correct word forms will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'the 2 pie chart explains' should be 'the two pie charts explain', and 'Then number of visitors... reduces' should be 'The number of visitors... reduced' to maintain consistent past tense. Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Proofreading for tense consistency and basic agreement is essential.
