Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified the main features of the table and pie charts, the analysis is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. You have successfully compared the visitor numbers and satisfaction levels, but the under-length nature of the response means that the information is not fully developed. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive summary that synthesizes the data rather than just listing figures, and always aim to exceed the minimum word count to ensure all aspects of the prompt are addressed in sufficient detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and mechanical (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Moving further', 'Meanwhile'). The logical progression of ideas is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the table data and the pie chart data. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the comparison of the two time periods.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'later year and previously from refurbished' and 'satisfied from museum'. You rely on basic descriptors and struggle with collocations related to data reporting. To improve, incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to trends and statistics, such as 'experienced an increase', 'remained stable', or 'a significant shift in opinion', and ensure you use prepositions correctly when describing satisfaction levels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., '15% people was', '40% people was') and awkward sentence structures (e.g., 'who was double from the people'). You rely heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Additionally, practice combining simple sentences into complex ones using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
