Student answer (Band 5.5)
THE GIVEN PIE CHARTS AND TABLE ILLUSTRATES THE NUMBERS OF VISITORS TO ASHDOWN MUSEUM DURING THE YEAR BEFORE AND AFTER IT WAS RENOVATED. THE PIE CHATS SHOE THE RESULT OF SURVEYS ABOUT THE SATISFACTION AND EXPERIENCE IN THE SAME TWO PHASES.
IN GENERAL, TABLE EMPHASIZED THE TOTAL NUMBER OF VISIORS TO MUSEUM INCREASE SIGNIFICANTLY AFTER THE YEAR OF REFURBISHMENT (92000 VISITORS) OVETAKE FIGURES OF BEFORE RESTORATION (74000 VISITORS).
LIKEWISE, RESULTS OF SERVEYS OF VISITOR SATISFACTION BRIEFLY DEMONSTRATED THE NUMBER OF ACCOUNTS FROM VERY SATISFIED PERSONS INCRESED DRAMATICALLY TO 35%, COMPARED WITH 15% PREVIOUSLY. ON THE OTHER HANDS, SERVEYS REPRESENTED 40% PEOPLE ARE NOT SATISFIED BEFORE THE REFURBISHMENT. HOWEVER, THE NUMBER OF DISSATISFIED PERSON SLIGTLY FELL TO 15%. THUS, THE PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE WHO DID NOT GIVE THEIR INTERNPERSONAL OPINION REMAINED UNCHANGED AT 5% BEFORE AND AFTER THE RENOVATION.
MOREOVER, THE PROPORTION OF VERY DISSATISFIED PEOPLE DECRESED FROM 10% TO 5%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the data, including the increase in visitor numbers and the shifts in satisfaction levels. You made relevant comparisons between the two periods. However, the response is quite brief and lacks a clear overview or summary paragraph that synthesizes the data effectively. While you covered the key points, the analysis remains somewhat superficial. To improve, ensure you clearly group the data and provide a more comprehensive summary of the trends rather than just listing the figures. The inclusion of all data points is accurate, but the overall structure needs more depth to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'In general', 'Likewise', and 'Moreover' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. The paragraphing is logical, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the table', 'the surveys') is consistent. The text is coherent overall, but the progression of ideas could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'refurbishment', 'dramatically', and 'proportion'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'SHOE' instead of 'show', 'SERVEYS' instead of 'surveys', 'INCRESED' instead of 'increased', and 'DECRESED' instead of 'decreased'. These errors are noticeable and detract from the professional tone required for an Academic Task 1. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate more precise academic collocations to describe trends, rather than relying on basic descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'THE GIVEN PIE CHARTS AND TABLE ILLUSTRATES' (subject-verb agreement), 'TABLE EMPHASIZED' (missing article), and '40% PEOPLE ARE NOT SATISFIED' (missing preposition). Additionally, the use of all-caps makes the text difficult to read and is inappropriate for formal writing. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation limits the score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
