Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of the table and charts, the analysis is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence. You have attempted to compare the data, but the explanation of the visitor numbers is repetitive and lacks clarity. Specifically, you mention the increase from 75,000 to 92,000 twice in the same paragraph. To improve, ensure you provide a complete overview and avoid redundant phrasing. You must also ensure that all parts of the prompt are fully addressed and that the response is of sufficient length to allow for a full development of the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the flow is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the final paragraph. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'the number of'. The logical progression is hindered by the abrupt ending, which leaves the reader without a clear conclusion or a fully developed final point. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'in contrast', 'consequently') to connect your ideas more fluidly. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that the essay reaches a natural conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'increased' and 'decreased' repeatedly. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'no response people', which should be 'visitors who gave no response'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and collocations related to data description, such as 'witnessed a significant rise' or 'experienced a decline'. Expanding your range of vocabulary will help you describe the trends more effectively and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. For instance, 'the pie chart compare' should be 'the pie chart compares' (subject-verb agreement). You also have sentence fragments, such as 'Which means people are amazed...', which should be connected to the previous sentence. The structure is largely simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence is complete. Practice combining simple sentences into complex ones using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
