Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features, such as the increase in visitor numbers and the shift in satisfaction levels. However, the analysis is quite superficial. The data is presented in a list-like fashion rather than being synthesised into a coherent summary. For instance, the comparison of satisfaction levels is fragmented and lacks a clear overview of the trends. While the key figures are mentioned, the lack of a clear structure and the failure to effectively highlight the 'main features' as requested by the prompt limits the score. To improve, you should group related data points and provide a clear, analytical overview of the changes observed after the refurbishment.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal logic is weak. The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the two periods. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'in year before refurbishment' and 'in year after refurbishment'. There is a lack of linking words to connect the sentences smoothly. The overall arrangement is mechanical, and the referencing is often unclear, which hinders the flow of information. Improving the use of transition signals and varying sentence structures would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'number', 'year', and 'satisfied'. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'tourism’s to ashdown museum' instead of 'visitor numbers to Ashdown Museum' and 'how feel they were' instead of 'how satisfied they were'. The phrasing is often unnatural, which impacts the clarity of the report. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'significant increase', 'proportion', 'fluctuation', or 'majority', and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('This table display', 'visitor are dissatisfied'), incorrect verb tenses ('is was refurbished'), and awkward sentence construction ('total number of visitors during the year before 74,000'). The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence forms, and punctuation is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions. Developing the ability to construct complex sentences will also help improve your score.
